My concentration consists of the idea of eastern cultures like India influencing western cultures such as cultures of the Carribbean. When looking at some of my other pieces they mostly involved Indian culture but this time I decided to show the evolution and transfereability of different styles of clothing. Carnival (to me) was a prime example of that. Even though this celebrated tradition is associated with Christianity, there are many influences from natives of the area and others around the world. Many eastern cultures celebrate religious events with elaborate parties and costumes. This design is for what is called a "samba queen". These are the girls you typically think of when you think of carnival. They are at the front of the samba queen and typically are at the top of the float. There are many things I can fix with this design. FIrst of all I needed to establish my color palette immedietly. Some of the yellows and golds look off with one another and I needed to fix that. Next I needed to consider the typical body type of these "queens'. I shouldve made wider hips and a bigger chest area for the model because that is what they typically look like. If this design could be mad real, I think it would look really interesting. |
