With the success of my previous piece, I knew that I was on the right track. Throughout the week I could not think of any concept to go off of or think of anything meaningful. I always try to make my art meaningful. Then the day before my piece for the week was due, I started listening to Bollywood music again. I thought about how beautiful the girls were and how the outfits were so vibrant and colorful. But then I thought about how in Indian culture, the only time you ever really see girls in this manner is when they are getting married. In regular Indian society, only the rich can afford to pay for their daughters lavish and extravagant weddings set up by their culture and cast system. Even though this system is outlawed in that culture, it is still practiced by many Indians today. I wanted to show something glamorous yet with a dark hidden meaning as well. This is honestly one of my favorite pieces and a nice surprise to the skill level I thought I never had. My mom and dad always told me to "Beware the Boys" |
