By this week, I was tired of being last place, art wise. I decided to work the hardest I have ever worked on a piece, ever before in my life. I was determined to prove myself. I had already messed up two times, I was not about to make the same mistake again. "Three strikes and your are out," as baseball rules go. My concept for this piece was the word respect. In todays world that word gets thrown around as if it has no meaning at all. When thinking about this word, I think of men and women fighting for what they believe and showing respect to their brothers in arms that they have lost. Being a military child, respect is concept that I completely understand and this painting shows that. The painting depicts a knight with his head down on his sword, on bended knee. In this time period, it was considered a way to honor a brother in arms that was deceased. The writing on his sword says "pro unus, pro totus" which is Latin for "for one, for all". For this time period, it was very common to have Latin phrases written on their weapons. Hard work really does work off because I was praised at that weeks critique for my bravery to tackle a bigger piece than the paper I was using before. I took a whole new approach on the way I made art and worked extra hard to reach closer to my goal. |
